Frequently asked questions. What is Google Store trade-in?
It’s our trade-in programme that can help you get the latest Pixel phone from Google. If your trade-in device is eligible for a partial refund, you get some money back (or a Google Store credit if the new purchased phone has already been returned). You can do all this online at the Google Store, making it convenient for you to complete your transaction all in one place.
How does it work?
We’ve made it easy to trade in an eligible device online. During your purchase of a new Pixel phone, select 'Start trade-in' on the 'Trade-in' screen. Just answer a few questions regarding the brand, model and condition of your device. An estimated trade-in value will be provided. If you accept the trade-in estimate online, accept the Terms and Conditions of our trade-in partner and complete your purchase, we’ll arrange for you to send your old device to our trade-in partner. You will receive your new phone before returning the old one, which gives you time to set the new one up. Your trade-in device must be sent within 30 days of the delivery of your new phone or your estimate may change.

Once our trade-in partner receives your old device, they will inspect it and verify that its condition matches what you told at the time of purchase. The physical inspection is more detailed and includes factors that aren't always visible to the eye (such as battery condition, screen burn-in, bruising or missing pixels, and the back light quality). If everything checks out, Google on behalf of our trade-in partner will partially refund your original purchase method. If the physical inspection reveals issues that reduce the value of the phone, a new estimated trade-in value will be refunded back to you along with an explanation of why the valuation differs. If the post-inspection value is not at least 75% of the estimated value, our trade-in partner will return the phone to you and you will receive no refund. A phone cannot be returned if it was reported stolen or is unsafe to ship.
How will the value of my old device be credited to me?
A credit card refund is only available if a Pixel device is purchased.

Refund is based on (and paid after) the device received matches the description you provided at time of estimate (manufacturer, model, whether it turns on, whether it has screen damage, etc). The refund will be issued to the form of payment you used for the order. If the trade-in refund exceeds the cost of your new Pixel device: The excess amount will be provided as Store Credit. Devices sent for trade-in must be received within 30 days of receiving your new device, provided the purchased device has not been returned during that time.

What conditions would preclude my phone from trade-in?
Please do not send your device if it has a damaged or swollen battery. If the inspection results show swelling or other physical damage to the battery, the device will not be eligible for credit and cannot be returned due to safety issues and local regulatory requirements. Please note that phones reported as lost or stolen, phones found to be counterfeit, phones that don't power on/off and phones that are not factory reset when received will also not be accepted for trade-in, and may not be returned due to safety issues and local regulatory requirements.
